– “Safety and Justice: How Should Communities Reduce Violence?” is the topic of a community forum to be held March 21 at 7 p.m. in the small meeting room of the Ashland Public Library. The forum, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Center for Civic Life at Ashland University. Discussion will be focused on ways to reduce such violence. Using a guide developed by National Issues Forum, participants will consider the pros and cons of three approaches. The first approach, “Enforce the Law Together,” looks at ways of strengthening the relationship between the police and the community. The second, “Apply the Law Fairly,” looks at reforming inequities that may lead to more crime. The third approach, “De-escalate and Prevent Violence,” looks at ways to disrupt conflict that may lead to criminal acts.  For more information call 419-289-5007
