Ashland Ranked as 30th Safest College Town in US

Ashland, Ohio – home of Ashland University -- has been ranked as the 30th safest college town in the country by Safewise, a company that reviews home security systems and lists its mission as helping to keep homes and communities safe.

To identify the safest college towns of 2018, Safewise looked at the most recent FBI crime report for each city that met its criteria. The rankings were then compiled based on the incident of violent crime per capita.

“We are very proud that Ashland is listed as one of the safest college towns in the country,” said Ashland University President Dr. Carlos Campo. “The town-gown relationship is very important to us and Enhanced Community Engagement is one of the pillars of AU’s ‘Ashland Rising 2020’ Strategic Plan.”

Campo also noted that Ashland University realizes that the vibrancy of the local community is directly tied to AU’s enrollment and retention growth.

The 2018 ranking notes that Ashland “boasts abundant civic pride and friendly community spirit.”

The ranking also noted that Ashland features a faculty member -- Associate Professor Amy Klinger -- who is a national school safety expert. Klinger co-founded the Educator’s School Safety Network and has just recently published a book titled "Keeping Students Safe Every Day: How to Prepare for and Respond to School Violence, Natural Disasters, and Other Hazards.”
