CRAWFORD - Troopers from the Bucyrus Post are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on April 9, 2023 at approximately 6:26 pm on Marion-Melmore Road at Nevada-Wynford Road in Crawford County, Ohio.
The crash involved a 2016Ford Escape driven by Barry Sparks, 71, of Bellevue, Ohio. The front passenger of the Ford was Judy Sparks, 73, of Bellevue, Ohio. The second vehicle involved was a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Teresa Blizzard, 50, of Nevada, Ohio.
The Chevrolet was westbound on Nevada-Wynford Road. The Ford was northbound on Marion-Melmore Road. The Ford failed to yield for a stop sign and struck the Chevrolet. After impact both vehicles traveled off the northwest side of the intersection. The Ford struck a utility pole and overturned onto its right side before coming to final rest.
Mr. Sparks was transported to the Bucyrus Community Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Mrs. Sparks and Ms. Blizzard were transported by to the Bucyrus Community Hospital with serious injuries. Mrs. Sparks was later flown to the OSU Medical Center.
Mr. Sparks was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in this crash. Next-of-kin have been notified.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Crawford County Sheriff Department, Bucyrus Fire Department, Wyandot East EMS, Upper Sandusky EMS, and Hensley’s Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
