Ashland Police Hires Two Officers

ASHLAND POLICE APPOINT TWO POLICE OFFICERS

On March 25, 2025, Mayor Matt Miller administered the oath of office to Police Officers Shane Cook and Brian Evans.

Cook, 26, of Perrysville, is an Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center graduate and a United States Marine Corps veteran. He completed the Police Academy at North Central State College in January. Before enrolling in the academy, Cook worked for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the United States Postal Service. The Ashland Police Division is his first appointment as a full-time peace officer.

Over the next four months, Officer Cook will work closely with field training officers to learn organizational procedures and become familiar with operations.

Cook expressed his eagerness to begin his new role with the City of Ashland, stating, “I grew up in Perrysville and spent a lot of time in Ashland. Being able to protect this community makes all the difference.”

Brian Evans, 52, of Mansfield, retired from the Ashland Police Division in 2021 after serving 24 years. He returns as the Division’s newest part-time police officer.

Due to his prior experience, Officer Evans will undergo a much shorter training period. After completing training, his position will help supplement staffing levels in the Patrol Bureau, focusing on traffic-related issues.
