The Mansfield Fire Department is reporting that they responded to a multiple simultaneous overdose emergency at the Richland Correctional Institutional.
The incident happened late Wednesday evening, where crews worked with staff at the Richland Correctional Institution to deliver care under challenging and evolving conditions.
The fire department said, all patients were stabilized, treated and transported as needed, described the incident, as a complex and demanding incident, which required rapid coordinated action.
WMAN news reached out to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for more information. Below is a statement they released about the incident at Richland Correctional Institutional.
In the late hours of June 3, 2025, Richland Correctional Institution (RiCI) staff members responded to several instances of suspected intoxication among incarcerated persons. In three cases, all within the same housing unit, medical attention was required, and Narcan was administered. In accordance with ODRC policy, these three individuals were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and returned a few hours later. Upon their return to the facility, they were admitted to the RiCI medical department for continued observation.
This incident remains under investigation.
