A black bear was hit by a truck in Richland County last weekend on Ohio 546, just south of Lexington.

According to RichlandSource.com, the bear was later euthanized by authorities due to the severity of its injuries.

Saturday morning's confirmed sighting of a black bear in Richland County is the first in over 25 years (1999). There have only been a handful (5) since 1990.

A wildlife biologist said, the adult male black bear weighed 246 pounds, and the state of Ohio has a population of between 50 and 100 bears.
