Fatal Crash on State Route 13 at State Route 96 West
Mansfield - The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mansfield Post, is investigating a fatal car crash that occurred on August 15, 2025, around 1:57 pm in Franklin Township. The crash involved a 2025 Chrysler Voyager minivan, a 2005 Kenworth T-800 dump truck, and a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer on State Route 13, North, at the intersection of State Route 96, West.
James Massie, age 81, of Gahanna, was operating the Chrysler and driving eastbound on State Route 96. The driver of the Kenworth, whose identity is still under investigation by the Richland County Coroner’s Office, was northbound on State Route 13. Amber Boyd, age 26, of Mansfield was southbound on State Route 13. Through the course of the on-scene investigation, roadway evidence showed that Mr. Massie attempted to make a left turn onto State Route 13 from State Route 96 as the Kenworth approached the intersection. The Kenworth struck the passenger side of the Chrysler. The Kenworth continued northbound, struck the guardrail on the southbound side of State Route 13, and overturned. The driver of the Kenworth was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Ms. Boyd came to a stop north of the overturned Kenworth and sustained minor damages to her vehicle.
Mr. Massie was transported by Franklin Township EMS to Ohio Health Mansfield for further treatment. Ms. Boyd did not report any injuries. The intersection and roadway were temporarily closed by the Ohio Department of Transportation but are now open for vehicular travel.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Richland County Coroner’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Franklin Township Fire and EMS, and Ronk’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
