Classes in the Mapleton School district were back in session on Tuesday, after the middle school and high school were evacuated on Friday, due to student illnesses that occurred on campus.
Superintendent, Scott Smith, in a press release said, some students experienced symptoms including headache, nausea, and dizziness spread out over a thirty minute period of time.
A total of 43 confirmed students were transported to 7 area hospitals.
Smith said, following a thorough investigation by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office along with area fire departments, Columbia Gas, and Mapleton maintenance and administration, the campus was cleared for normal operations.
It's still not known what exactly caused the illnesses.
