Homeowners shut your blinds! Your nosey neighbor may be using their security cameras to spy on you! According to a survey of 1,000 Americans by smart home company Vivant, one in four people admitted to using their cameras to check out what their neighbors are doing and one in seven confessed to watching their neighbor walking around naked. CREEPY!
While there's no for sure way to know if your neighbors are creeps, you can estimate your odds based on the age of your neighbors. Gen X homeowners were the most likely generation to spy on others, while Gen Z respondents were significantly more likely too use their cameras to avoid people who knock on their door. Off-topic, but one in ten claimed they had caught supernatural phenomena, ghosts and/or aliens - which like this should ABSOLUTELY be the number one reason you're buying a home surveillance system. Like forget catching a robber I want to catch Casper!
Don't assume that just because your neighbor has a home security system they're solely buying it to snoop - 48% stated their number one reason was for safety and 40% said they wanted to track delivery packages. One in eight respondents claim they caught their neighbors stealing gas from their cars, 18% said they caught the neighbors not picking up after their dog uses the bathroom on their lawn, and 12% caught their roommates stealing from them - YIKES!
This does remind me of that popular Gen Z TikTok trend of hiding from the doorbell. Watch below!
