American Airlines has a flight attendant that’s landed in the Guinness Book of World Records. Bette Nash started her career in 1957, and at 86 is the oldest attendant in the world. Nash does everything all crew members do, including taking continuing FAA training.

She started at Eastern Airlines and a series of mergers landed her at American. Bette gets her pick of routes and has been mostly loyal to the New York to Washington to Boston Shuttle most of her career. She likes it because she can be home every night to take care of her disabled son.

Bette shares that things are very different these days. Early in her career she had to maintain a certain weight or be fired, had to be a certain height, the flights were only $12, and they sold cigarettes on board the plane (with matches).
