A doctor in South Florida donates an ambulance to help relief efforts in Ukraine. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, Plantation, Florida, physician Tatyana Borisiak was looking for ways to help her hometown of Verkhovyna in Western Ukraine. “I cannot send weapons. I cannot send bullets or anything like that, but I thought — as a medical doctor — I should be able to help,” she says.

Since the war began, Ukrainians have flooded into Verkhovyna from the east seeking shelter, taking a toll on the village. When Borisiak realized the local hospital was still using the same ambulance they had when she volunteered there as a teenager, she knew one way she could make a difference. She was able to raise $37-thousand and purchase an ambulance. The vehicle was outfitted in Germany and arrived in the village in June by way of Poland.

Already the ambulance is helping to bring wounded fighters from the front line, but Borisiak is determined to do more to help her home country. She has plans to deliver medical supplies to the region in August. "We still need help,” she says. “We need help to hopefully overcome this evil and have peace."
