A teen girl has become the youngest Black person to ever be accepted into medical school. Last year we told you about Alena Wicker graduating from high school and starting college at 12 years old. Well, unsurprisingly, she’s continued to excel and this year, the now 13-year-old has made history as the youngest Black person to ever be accepted into medical school.

She started her college career last year at Arizona State University and completed two and a half years of course study in one year. She was initially working toward a double major in astrophysics and chemistry, but has since decided to pursue a career in biology. "It actually took one class in engineering for me to say this is kind of not where I wanted to go,” Alena explains.

Her next stop will be the Heersink School of Medicine at University of Alabama and if all goes according to her plan, she’ll be a full-fledged doctor by the time she turns 18. She hopes to use her skills to help underserved communities and continue to inspire other young girls. “I really want to leave my mark on the world. And lead a group of girls that know what they can do,” she explains. “I want them to see that there are no limits.”
