A couple in Central Florida ties the knot on a float in a Christmas parade and then their float ends up winning first place. Lakeland, Florida, couple Eric Daniel and Joy Richter were planning on having a quiet wedding after getting engaged earlier this year. Eric reached out to Pastor Crystal Porter to officiate their nuptials and she told them about a special opportunity. The Polk County Weddings and Event Pros were looking for a couple to get married on a float they were sponsoring in the 41st annual Lakeland Christmas parade.

Even though it was far from what they’d been planning, Eric entered the couple in the contest to win the $20-thousand parade wedding and private reception. On December 1st, before a crowd of thousands and livestreamed on the internet, the couple said “I do” on the float slowly moving through downtown Lakeland. They even had their first dance, cut their wedding cake, and shared a celebratory toast on the float.

After the parade, the newlyweds headed to a private reception at a hotel near the parade's end. Meanwhile, a panel of judges discussed which of the floats would rank as the best in the parade and the Daniels’ wedding float won first place. And even though it wasn’t the small, intimate ceremony they’d originally envisioned, Erik said he wanted to give his new bride a wedding to remember and they definitely got that.
