Over the Fourth of July, the Rizzo family went boating on Lake Cumberland in Southern Kentucky. It was out on the lake that their young son Rocco lost his blankie that he’d had since he was a baby. They tried dragging the lake bottom with fish hooks, but ended up having to leave that day without the blankie.

Rocco’s mom Liz knew it was a long shot, but she posted about the lost blankie on the Lake Cumberland Boaters Facebook group page where the post was seen by Michelle Godby, who runs the Lake Cumberland Treasures and More page. Godby contacted her husband Lyndon, a member of the Jamestown Fire Department’s dive team, who along with their son Braydin, bee-lined it for the lake to search for Rocco’s precious blanket.

A couple of hours into their search, Lyndon found the missing red blankie 35 feet down on the bottom of the lake. After giving the blanket a wash, he returned it to Rocco, who was so excited that he was literally jumping for joy. The kind gesture meant a lot to the Rizzo family. “It's something that our family won't forget,” Rocco’s dad Zac Rizzo says, “Just to know that there are good people out there — willing to do this for no reason other than just to help someone.”
