The Shelby Whippets are headed to play in the regional championship game for the 5th time in school history. Shelby roll past Lima Bath on Friday, 49-7, in the Division IV Regional Semi-Final at the Whippet Athletic Complex.
Brayden DeVito, a Mr. Football candidate, racked up 6 touchdowns in the 1st half, 3 rushing and 3 passing, to push Shelby into the championship game for the 1st time since 2020.
The Whippets had over 400 yards of offense and all 3 TD pass from DeVito went to Brady Bowman, who now has 21 TD catches on the year and over 1,400 yards receiving.
Freshman Luke Blevins, who has impressed at the varsity level this season, darted 60 yards to the end zone on the 1st play from scrimmage in the 3rd quarter.
Shelby's defense was incredible, as the Whippet D put pressure on Lima Bath's QB all night and just lived in the backfield. Brayden DeVito had an interception and Sam Gwirtz was all over the field from his linebacker spot. Carter Kessler was flying off the edge for Shelby's defense, which now has only given up 37 total points in the last 8 weeks.
Shelby (12-0) will now take on Galion (11-1) in the Regional Championship game on Friday night, November 21st. #1 vs #2 for a spot in the State Final Four and what should be a fantastic game in North Central Ohio.
